Are you dealing with discoloration? One of the great things about living in today’s world is the fact that you don’t need to settle for a smile that you aren’t proud showing off. If you are dealing with discoloration, there are many different things that you can do in order to brighten up and enhance your smile. Continue reading to learn some helpful tips that can give you that beautiful white smile that you’ve always dreamed of.

Maintain Excellent Oral Hygiene

If you aren’t taking care of your oral health, you are far from having perfectly white teeth. Be sure that you are brushing twice and flossing at least once every single day. Not only does flossing remove plaque, but it also helps to prevent staining and discoloration between the teeth and along the gumline. It is also a good idea to rinse using a mouthwash and see your dentist for regular cleanings and checkups.

Cut Back on Sweets

An occasional sugary treat doesn’t usually hurt, but if you are indulging too often, you could end up with some dental problems in your hands. When you eat sugar, the bacteria in your mouth feed off of it and produce a weak acid as a by-product. This is what is so harmful for your teeth. If you do decide to have a sugary treat on occasion, be sure to brush your teeth immediately afterwards.

Be Careful of Pigmented Foods

A common cause of tooth discoloration has to do with highly pigmented foods and beverages. For instance, if you drink coffee every morning and have a glass of red wine at night, your teeth may begin to show this. If you do decide to enjoy these beverages, take some precautionary measures. Drink them quickly or use a straw to reduce the amount of contact the liquid has with your teeth.

Teeth Whitening

Fortunately, if you are looking to reduce lingering stains and discoloration, you can just give your dentist a call. In-office teeth whitening is popular and effective. By going in for just one visit, you can have your teeth brightened up by up to eight shades. First, your dentist will use a special barrier to cover your gums, tongue, and cheeks. Next, the whitening agent is painted onto the surface of the teeth where it is activated under a special light. This way, you can walk out of the office with a noticeably whiter smile!

You don’t need to put up with discoloration. By following the tips listed above, you can keep your pearly whites, white!
